San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Airport Information

(San Francisco, California - CA, USA)

Lying next to San Bruno and the Bayshore Freeway, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is roughly 14 miles / 22 km south of central San Francisco and is also close to the city of Oakland. Currently California's number two airport and priding itself on short wait times, San Francisco has just welcomed the regional-based Virgin America airline, with its headquarters based nearby in Burlingame.

Available transport options at San Francisco Airport are plentiful in supply and link the downtown district and Union Square, Chinatown, the Financial District, Haight-Ashbury, Pacific Heights and the gay capital of Castro, amongst other destinations. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) trains are especially popular onsite, with the SFO BART Station being situated in the departures area of the International Terminal.

Public buses operated by SamTrans are also available, along with door-to-door Airport Express shuttles and Bayporter vans, ABC and San Francisco Bay Area Limousines. Various taxicabs gather at specified zones next to the roadway islands. Car parking at San Francisco Airport comes in the form of short-term (at the five-storey domestic parking garage and the international parking garages A to G) and long-term lots, which are close to the terminal buildings and clearly labelled, with the furthest being connected by frequent shuttles. For a little more money, valet parking can be arranged.

About San Francisco Tourism

One of America's most famous cities, San Francisco stands in the state of California and is perhaps most famous for being home to the truly spectacular Golden Gate Bridge, which dates back to 1937. Other notable sights around the city include Pier 39 at the Fisherman's Wharf, where you can observe a large group of sea lions, who now live here and regularly sunbathe on nearby wooden platforms.

One of the grandest buildings in the whole city, the San Francisco City Hall resembles a palace in its appearance and is topped with a large dome. Also of interest is the notorious past prison on Alcatraz Island, the extremely bendy and iconic Lombard Street, the truly outstanding Aquarium of the Bay, and the Japanese Gardens at Golden Gate Park.

Located alongside the suburbs of Foster City, Montara, Pacifica, San Bruno and San Mateo, San Francisco Airport (SFO) lies next to the bay itself. Near to the city and its airport, the Muir Woods are located to the north and feature some enormous redwoods, while in the East Bay area, the slides at Waterworld USA is always popular with families.
