Car Rental, Driving and Parking in San Francisco
Downtown San Francisco is a complex system of narrow one-way streets and steep hills. Many areas are bottlenecks and traffic can be heavy at times, with parking spaces often hard to locate. Also keep an eye out for local drivers, who often cross traffic and pull out without warning.
Traffic jams can be particularly bad during the morning rush hours when crossing the famous Golden Gate Bridge, or in the afternoon when heading north to the Sausalito area. A parking area is available on the northern side of the bridge.
